Oscar Johnson House -American System Built Home, 1917
2614 Lincolnwood Dr, Evanston IL
The Oscar Johnson House is one of the American System Built Homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the Richards construction company of Milwaukee. It is one of four realized Two-Story models, with two of the others located in Chicago, Illinois, and the final located in Monona, Iowa. The Oscar Johnson House in Evanston, though one of the American System-Built Homes, is clearly derived from the model for "A Fireproof House for $5,000" designed by Wright in 1907 with its conceptualization of a two-story home containing a square plan. Faced with stucco and banded windows, the Johnson House demonstrates many of the ideas put forth in Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie Style, however, of particular difference is the relatively small, square chimney opposing his regular use of wide chimneys.
